OKLAHOMA CITY (City of OKC Public Information) – The Oklahoma City Council approved final plans for an indoor softball practice facility at Devon Park, a project funded through the City’s 2025 Bond program. A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for fall 2026.
The 30,000-square-foot, split-level brick building will include two indoor practice infields, team locker rooms, and areas for sports medicine, player development, and administration. An enclosed, weather‑controlled connection will link the new facility to the stadium, allowing staff, coaches and players to move between the buildings without exposure to weather.
The practice facility will be built on the southwest side of Devon Park. The $25.4 million project also includes an enhanced stadium entrance that features brick columns and shade structures.
“We want this to be a premier softball performance training facility that continues to grow the softball community nationally,” Public Works Director Debbie Miller said. “Our goal is for this to be designated as a United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee training site and to help secure Oklahoma City as the home of the NCAA Women’s College World Series beyond 2035.”
Two practice infields will allow both teams to practice simultaneously while remaining fully separated so they do not see, hear or interact with each other before competition.
The building’s lower level will house the practice areas and team support spaces. Each indoor field will have a dedicated team locker room with direct field access. Additional spaces on the lower level will include sports medicine rooms, a weight room and a laundry area.
A local architecture firm, STUDIO Architecture, designed the facility. Once construction begins, the project is expected to take 18 months to build.
“Our vision for Oklahoma City has always centered on creating a world-class home for softball, and this new indoor practice facility and training center is another major step toward that future,” Craig Cress, CEO of USA Softball said. “As the city prepares to welcome the world to Oklahoma City for the Olympic Games as well as continue its storied tradition of hosting the Women’s College World Series, this facility will provide elite training opportunities for athletes while also creating a lasting impact for our sport long after 2028. It represents our continued commitment to growing softball at every level and ensuring that Oklahoma City remains the Softball Capital of the World.”
