AT THE HELM

On Feb. 3, 2025, a new era began as Patty Gasso was named the head coach for Team USA Softball. Selected by the USA Softball Selection Review panel, Gasso is set to lead the WNT to LA28 through the 2025-28 quadrennial cycle.

She has been involved with the Women’s National Team program since 2018, coaching the U.S. Women’s Elite team during the World Cup of Softball. Wrapping up her 31st year as the head coach at OU in 2025, Gasso owns a 1,567-361-2 record at OU as the school’s all-time wins leader.

TEAM USA
In April, USA Softball announced the 15-player roster that will take the stage at the 2025 World Games, Aug. 13-17 in Chengdu, China. Team USA features 13 returners from the 2024 season, including 12 athletes from the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup.

Leading the Eagles are returners Ally Carda, Rachel Garcia, Dejah Mulipola and Bubba Nickles, who all played for the U.S. WNT in the 2020 Olympics with Skylar Wallace and Jayda Coleman making their WNT debut after competing for the U.S. Women’s Elite Team in 2024 and the 2019 U-19 Women’s World Cup team, respectively.

THE ALL-STARS
The 18-person All-Star roster will take on Team USA Thursday night with a combination of youth, athleticism and a veteran mentality.

The squad will be led by the newly donned WCWS Champions from Texas, Teagan Kavan (RHP | West Des Moines, Iowa) and Reese Atwood (C | Sandia, Texas), along with 2025 Honda Sport Award winner NiJaree Canady (RHP | Topeka, Kan.) and USA Softball College Player of the Year, Bri Ellis (INF | Houston, Texas).

SUPPORT THE WNT PROGRAM
Calling it a “dream come true” for her career, Gasso is ready to lead the Eagles to gold, taking the baton from those before her and is driven to lead the team to their most successful years in program history while she is at the helm.

In Gasso’s introductory press conference, she confidently stated that she doesn’t just believe – she knows – that Team USA will put in the hard work necessary to earn the Gold Medal in LA28. After being in attendance of the first appearance by USA Softball in the Atlanta Olympics, Gasso has had a vision and a dream, and starting in 2025 – you can be a part of it.
