A total of 16 athletes will compete for Team USA at the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage event in Dallas, Texas slated for August 29 – September 2. The first of its kind to be identified from the HPP National Selection Event, the U-18 WNT roster was chosen by the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Selection Committee (JWNTSC).
The 16-player roster is set to take on the international competition in Dallas, Texas for the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage event – the first in its history to be played under the new two-stage format where the Group Stage and the Finals will be held in consecutive years. As hosts of a WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage event, world-ranked No. 1 Team USA will receive an automatic bid in its respective group event.
The WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Stage 1 event will be streamed via GameTime. Fans will have the option of two different services: Group Pass ($12.99) or Daily Pass ($7.99). U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team opens WBSC World Cup Group C Stage with run-rule victory over Ireland
DALLAS, Texas (August 29, 2024) — Behind a nine-run third inning, the Eagles opened the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event with a 15-0 run-rule victory over Ireland, highlighted by perfect 2-for-2 performances from Bella Ruggiero and Cayden Tullier. Brooke Wells tabbed a grand slam in the matchup, while Saylor Timmerman tossed the U.S. pitching staff’s first no-hitter of the tournament to seal the shutout win in three innings.
The U.S. was quick to get on the board after a pair of walks and a single from Ruggiero put runners in scoring position for Townsen Thomas to plate two with a single to right field, putting the U.S. ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Another pair of singles and a walk set the stage for Brooke Wells to send one deep for a grand slam in the bottom of the second, extending the Eagles’ lead, 6-0. The U.S. bats stayed hot through the third, with nine batters notching hits to secure the walk-off victory via run-rule, including doubles from Paislie Allen, McLaine Hudson, Ruggiero, and Tullier (2). Timmerman held strong in the circle through three innings, fanning seven batters while maintaining a 0.00 ERA.
U-18 Women’s National Team improves to 3-0 with back-to-back run-rules over Australia and Canada
DALLAS, Texas (August 30, 2024) — The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team (WNT) came out firing on Day 2 of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event, outscoring their opponents 19-1 with a pair of run-rule victories over Australia (10-0 – four innings) and Canada (9-1 – six innings). The U.S. offense exploded in the two wins with a combined 26 hits with Townsen Thomas and McLaine Hudson each tabbing five hits on the day, while Payton Westra followed close behind with four. Also highlighting the U.S. offense was home runs off the bats of Ella McDowell (vs Australia) and Sophia Mujica (vs Canada).
Shining in the circle for Team USA was Lexie Hames who fanned eight batters via strikeout through four innings in the shutout victory over Australia before Cameryn Harrison took control in Game 2 tossing six innings for a run-rule victory. The pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts on the day while allowing only one earned run through 10 innings.
Team USA returns to action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT against Mexico followed by a matchup against the Philippines (Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. CT) to close out opening round. The playoff round is slated for Monday, Sept. 2.
U-18 Women’s National Team posts 15-0 shutout win over Mexico to remain undefeated at the 2024 WBSC U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event
DALLAS, Texas (August 31, 2024) — The Red, White and Blue closed out game four of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event with a 15-0 run-rule victory over Mexico – highlighted by home runs off the bats of five U.S. batters (Paislie Allen, McLaine Hudson, Ella McDowell, Brooke Wells and Payton Westra).
Retiring all nine batters they faced in order; the U.S. pitching staff of Saylor Timmerman and Addisen Fisher tossed a combined no-hitter while fanning six batters through three innings of play. Scoring early and often, the Eagles scored eight runs in the bottom of the first before tacking on six more in the bottom of the second and one final run in the bottom of the third to seal the 15-0 run-rule. Highlighting the U.S. offense with perfect 2-for-2 performances at the plate were McLaine Hudson, Brooke Wells and Payton Westra. At the same time, Townsen Thomas (2-for-3) and Ella McDowell (2-for-3) also posted multi-hit performances – in addition to five home runs from the U.S. bats. A true team win, nine U.S. batters recorded at least one hit on the day while combining for a .667 batting average.
Team USA returns to action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT against the Philippines to close out opening round with the playoff round to follow on Monday, Sept. 2.
U-18 Women’s National Team caps opening round with 7-0 run-rule over the Philippines
DALLAS, Texas (September 1, 2024) — Team USA improved to 5-0 at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event following a 7-0 run-rule victory over the Philippines to close out opening round and advance to the final contest as the No. 1 seed in Group C.
Staying hot at the plate, the Eagles came out strong in game five with seven runs on 10 hits behind a perfect 2-for-2 performance from Sofia Mujica, in addition to multi-hit performances from Ella McDowell (2-for-3) and Harlie Chism (2-for-3). A double off the bat of Ella McDowell and base hits from seven U.S. batters helped propel the U.S. offense to the win. At the same time, the pitching staff of Addisen Fisher, Lexie Hames and Cameryn Harrison combined for 10 strikeouts to seal the Red, White and Blue’s fourth shutout – and second no-hitter – of the tournament.
The Eagles will close out the WBSC World Cup Group C Stage Event tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. CT with a rematch against Canada with a ticket to the 2025 WBSC World Cup Finals on the line.
U-18 Women’s National Team posts 7-0 run-rule over Canada to punch its ticket to the 2025 WBSC World Cup Finals
DALLAS, Texas (September 2, 2024) — The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team (WNT) posted its final win of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event, defeating Canada in an 7-0 run-rule victory to punch its ticket to the World Cup Finals held in 2025. The U.S. and Canada met in the No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup while Australia and Mexico finished opening round in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Team USA’s win sends Canada to take on Mexico – who defeated Australia earlier in the day – for the second spot in the Finals.
With a trip to the 2025 WBSC World Cup Finals on the line, the U.S. and Canada kicked off the action at 3:30 p.m. CT. Shining for the Eagles at the plate was Townsen Thomas with a 3-for-4 performance, while Harlie Chism and Ella McDowell went 2-for-3 on the day.
Taking care of business in the circle was Addisen Fisher, allowing only three hits through six innings while retiring eight via strikeout. The U.S. offense struggled to come alive through the first two innings but got on the board in the bottom of the third after a series of singles set McDowell up to push one run in – putting the Eagles ahead, 1-0. Despite a quiet fourth inning, pressure from Townsen Thomas and Elsa Morrison in the bottom of the fifth forced a series of fielding miscues from the Canada defense, allowing the Red, White and Blue to plate three before Bella Ruggiero sent a double to left field to tack on two more runs – extending the U.S. lead 6-0. A pair of singles and a double from Morrison in the bottom of the sixth pushed the final run across to seal the shutout win, 7-0, in walk-off fashion.
Today’s win marks Team USA’s third-straight shutout – and fifth overall – en route to clinching its spot in the WBSC World Cup Finals, with opening round wins over Ireland, Australia, Canada, Mexico and the Philippines. The U-18 WNT squad dominated throughout the tournament, winning each matchup by way of the run-rule. Leading the U.S. offense in its undefeated campaign through the Group C event was McDowell with a .733 batting average, followed by Thomas (.684) and McLaine Hudson (.526). The U.S. pitching staff of Fisher, Lexie Hames, Cameryn Harrison and Saylor Timmerman shined in the six wins – totaling 41 strikeouts and eight allowed hits while only giving up one run.
The Eagles led the tournament in eight offensive categories and three pitching categories – including batting average (McDowell – .733), hits (Thomas – 13), home runs (McDowell, Wells – 2), RBI (Allen, Wells – 9), Runs Scored (Hudson, Wells – 9), On-base-percentage (McDowell – .750), Slugging Percentage (McDowell – 1.267), Hits Allowed (Timmerman – 0), Runs Allowed (0) and Earned Runs (0).
