OKLAHOMA CITY (April 12, 2024) – USA Softball has recently revealed the names of the athletes who have been selected to participate in two upcoming international softball events – the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s World Cup and Japan All-Star Series. The Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) has picked a total of 16 players who will represent the Women’s National Team (WNT) in the WBSC Women’s World Cup in Castions de Strada, Italy slated for July 15-21. In addition, the Women’s Elite Team will also have 16 players who will compete against Team Japan in the Japan All-Star Series, taking place from July 4-8. The 2024 WBSC World Cup roster includes four athletes who were part of the 2020 U.S. Olympic team and six members from the 2023 WBSC World Cup Group Stage that helped the Eagles qualify for the World Cup Finals. The team also includes two rookies making their debut in the Red, White and Blue, as well as five athletes who have previously represented the U.S. either as a member of the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT) or WNT. The 16-player roster includes 14 former student-athletes and two current student-athletes from four athletic conferences – Pac-12 (seven athletes), SEC (six athletes), Big 12 (two athletes) and ACC (one athlete). UCLA has the most representation with four athletes followed by LSU with two athletes. Other universities represented include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Washington, with one athlete apiece.

Thirteen current student-athletes and three former student-athletes have been selected to represent the U.S. in the 2024 Japan All-Star Series. Among them, one athlete (Taryn Kern) will be representing the U.S. for the first time in her career, while six athletes will return to the international stage after competing in the 2023 Japan All-Star Series. The roster includes athletes from four different athletic conferences: SEC (six athletes), Big 12 (five athletes), Pac-12 (four athletes), and ACC (one athlete), who collectively represent nine NCAA Division I universities. Oklahoma has the highest number of athletes on the roster with four, followed by Florida, Kentucky, LSU, and Stanford with two each. Clemson, Oklahoma State, UCLA, and Washington are also represented with one athlete each.

Athletes were selected by the Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) based on previous and ongoing evaluations at the collegiate levels as well as USA Softball National Team events, trials and camps.
