Slated for July 15-21, the Women’s National Team will compete in Group A alongside Canada, China and host country Italy, while Australia, Japan, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico will battle it out in Group B.

CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 15, 2024) — The world-ranked No. 1 U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) kicked off the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals today with a 5-2 victory over Canada — highlighted by timely hitting from the Eagles offense in a tense comeback matchup. The pitching staff of Ally Carda and Kelly Maxwell demonstrated strong control in the circle, with Carda setting the tone through the first three innings and Maxwell finishing with four solid innings to secure the win for Team USA. The pair combined for nine strikeouts on the day while only allowing three hits.

Canada took an early 1-0 lead with a walk and a double in the top of the first before adding another run in the third to make it 2-0. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring their first run of the game after a walk to Amanda Lorenz and a single from Jocelyn Alo put runners in place for Jessie Warren to force a fielder’s choice that plated Lorenz — narrowing the Canadian lead, 2-1. Haylie McCleney and Hannah Flippen kept the bats going in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of singles that evened the score, 2-2. The Eagles surged ahead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double from Maya Brady and a sacrifice fly from Haylie McCleney that put the U.S. ahead, 5-2. Maxwell held steady in the circle, retiring four batters in the top of the seventh to pick up the save and clinch the win for the Eagles.
CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 16, 2024) — Team USA picked up its second win of the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals today with a 7-0 (five innings) run-rule over host country Italy. Shining at the plate for the Eagles, Jessie Warren and Janae Jefferson each tabbed a 2-for-3 performance, with Warren leading the U.S. offense with a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Megan Faraimo proved dominant in the circle for the U.S., fanning nine batters through five innings while only allowing two hits.

The Red, White and Blue got on the board early in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead-off walk to Haylie McCleney and a ground out RBI from Amanda Lorenz that pushed across the first run of the game to put the Eagles ahead, 1-0. Warren knocked a solo shot over the center field fence in the bottom of the second to widen the lead, 2-0, before a double from Hannah Flippen and a ground out RBI from Jocelyn Alo tacked on another run in the bottom of the third. The Italy defense managed to silence the U.S. offense through the fourth, but a pair of singles and a bases loaded double from Warren extended the lead, 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth. With the run-rule in effect, Maya Brady walked it off with a ground out RBI to seal the 7-0 shutout victory in the fifth.
CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 17, 2024) — Behind a dominant showing from both sides of the ball, the U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) picked up its third win — and second-straight shutout — of the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals with a 6-0 shutout victory over China to close out Opening Round. Three Eagles posted a multi-hit performance in the win, including Jocelyn Alo (2-for-4), Maya Brady (2-for-3) and Sahvanna Jaquish (2-for-2). Ally Carda got the start in the circle for the Eagles, fanning four batters through four innings before Rachel Garcia stepped in to record five K’s through the final three innings. The duo combined for nine strikeouts on the day and only one hit allowed, while not allowing a single run. The Eagles will advance to the Super Round as the No. 1 seed in Group A following today’s win.

Team USA wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the top of the first thanks to a series of walks and a pair of singles from Jocelyn Alo and Sahvanna Jaquish that put the Eagles ahead, 2-0. Alo and Jaquish kept the momentum in the top of the second, each recording their second hit of the day in back-to-back at-bats to score two more — widening the U.S. lead to 4-0. Sis Bates and Maya Brady tacked on one more in the top of the third after a walk to Bates set the stage for Brady to send a line drive double to center field, strengthening the lead, 5-0. Brady pushed the final U.S. run across in the top of the seventh after a series of singles paved the way for a base hit up the middle to put the U.S. on top, 6-0. After entering the game in the fourth inning, Garcia held strong in the circle through the final at-bat, retiring three straight batters via strikeout in the bottom of the seventh to seal the shutout victory for Team USA.
CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 18, 2024) — The world-ranked No. 1 U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) continued to prove dominant at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Japan on Day 4 of the tournament. Highlighting the U.S. offense was Dejah Mulipola and Jessie Warren who were the only U.S. batters to record an RBI in the matchup – while Mulipola (2-for-3) also recorded the only multi-hit performance for the Eagles.

In true USA vs Japan fashion, the matchup proved to be a defensive showdown with neither side able to break the silence through four innings until a hit-by-pitch to Jocelyn Alo set the stage for Warren to send an RBI triple to right field that plated one in the top of the fifth. Mulipola quickly followed suit and tacked on an insurance run with a base hit down the left field line to strengthen the lead, 2-0. Megan Faraimo went the distance in the circle for the Eagles, recording eight strikeouts through seven innings while limiting the Japan offense to three hits to seal the shutout win – marking the third-straight shutout for Team USA.
CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 19, 2024) — Capping off Super Round, the U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) improved to 5-0 at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals after posting a 7-0 run-rule victory over the Netherlands. The U.S. will advance to the gold medal matchup slated for tomorrow at 8 p.m. CET (1 p.m. CT) against Japan with sights set on earning its fourth-consecutive WBSC World Cup title.

Team USA continued its dominance at the plate, combining for 10 hits on the day with eight U.S. batters posting at least one hit in the matchup – highlighted by multi-hit performances from Hannah Flippen (2-for-3) and Sis Bates (2-for-2). The pitching staff of Ally Carda and Kelly Maxwell took care of business in the circle with a combined no-hitter and seven strikeouts.
The Eagles once again wasted no time getting things started in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead-off single from Bates paired with a two-run blast from Flippen that put the U.S. on top, 2-0. Back-to-back singles from Maya Brady and Haylie McCleney and a sac-fly from Bates tacked on three more in the bottom of the second to extend the U.S. lead, 5-0. The Eagles closed out the bottom of the fifth with a single from Tiare Jennings and a walk-off double from Rachel Garcia to clinch the shutout win in the fifth via the run-rule.
CASTIONS DI STRADA, Italy (July 20, 2024) — The U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) came up short in the gold medal matchup of the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), falling 6-1 to Japan to earn the silver medal. The Red, White and Blue closes the tournament with a 5-1 record while outscoring its opponents 28-8.
The U.S. offense struggled to come alive in today’s matchups with a combined five hits on the day, four of which came off the bats of Hannah Flippen (2-for-3) and Jessie Warren (2-for-4). The U.S. pitching staff of Kelly Maxwell, Megan Faraimo and Ally Carda combined for six strikeouts in the matchup.

The Eagles got on the board early, scoring their only run of the game in the bottom of the first after a series of singles from Flippen, Warren and Lorenz plated one to put the U.S. on top, 1-0. Team Japan quickly answered back in the top of the second with a series of base hits that allowed Japan to take the lead, 2-1. The top of the fourth saw four more runs cross the plate for Japan after stringing together four hits in the inning to widen their lead, 6-1. Despite putting runners on base in the final two innings, the U.S. was unable to muster any runs.
