STANFORD, Calif. — Recently announced by Stanford Athletics, former Cardinal and U.S. Olympian Lauren Lappin will be among 10 standout alumni inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame later this year. Lappin joins three former U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) members – including Olympian Jessica Mendoza – in the Hall of Fame at Stanford University and will be inducted as part of the Class of 2023 in an evening ceremony on Friday, Sept. 29 while being recognized publicly on Saturday, Sept. 30, during Stanford’s football game against Oregon.
“We are thrilled to see Lauren join the ranks of the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame,” said USA Softball Chief Sport Development/Performance Officer, Chris Sebren. “Having made her mark on the 2008 U.S. Olympic silver medal team as well as various other Women’s National Team rosters throughout her career, Lauren joins a storied list of Team USA athletes to receive the highest honor of being inducted into a Hall of Fame. Congratulations to her on this much deserved accomplishment!”
Lappin finished her career (2003-2006) at Stanford University as a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American (2004-05) and All-Region honoree (2006) while also collecting two Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year (2005-06) honors and an All-Pac-10 selection during each of her four seasons (2003-06) – qualifying for first team three times (2004-06). A key contributor throughout her collegiate career, Lappin led the Cardinal to the NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS) semi-finals in 2004, followed by back-to-back NCAA Super Regional appearances in 2005 and 2006. Lappin remains atop the Stanford Softball leaderboard nearly two decades since graduating, ranking fourth in school history in career assists (511) and sixth in career runs scored (168).
A career that continued to flourish on the international stage, Lappin represented Team USA on various rosters for nearly seven years while also serving as a WNT assistant coach in 2012. Her accolades extend across all levels of the game, including three World Cup gold medals (2007, 2009, 2010), one Pan American Games gold medal (2007) as well as a highly touted Olympic silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Lappin was also named an alternate for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Softball Team.
The 2023 class will increase the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame to a total of 470 individuals – four of which highlight the sport of softball (Lauren Lappin, Jessica Mendoza, Dana Sorenson and Ashley Hansen).
