Charlie Richard’s famed career spanned three decades at the highest level of men’s fast pitch. He made his national debut at the 1957 Men’s National Tournament where he only allowed one hit. From 1960-1969, he played for the famed Sealmasters team, capturing the ASA National title three times. During those nine seasons, his overall record was 230-35 with an ERA of 0.56. Charlie was also a member of the gold medal USA Men’s National Team, capturing the first two ISF World tournaments in 1966 and 1968. Charlie was named MVP of the 1966 games, and he threw the first ever perfect game in ISF history in 1968. He went on to throw five more perfect games and twenty-one no hitters. Charlie was widely considered to be the best left-handed pitcher of that era, going on to be an advocate and active supporter for men’s fast pitch.
“While we are sad that Charlie is no longer with us, we are thrilled to receive this recognition in his honor and his memory. We know he would want us to thank the committee for placing him alongside his teammates in the Hall of Fame. He would also want us to thank his loving wife and our dear mother, Florence, for her support – at home and in the stands. He truly loved softball and it showed in his passion and dedication to the sport. ”
