Built one of the most distinguished coaching careers in softball history, combining collegiate success, international achievements, and decades of service to the growth of the sport.

  • Inducted into the NFCA Hall of Fame in 2011.
  • Coached the U.S. Women’s National Team throughout the 1990s, guiding Team USA to Olympic gold medals in both 1996 and 2000.
  • From 1998-2001, Weekly served as the Director of USA Softball National Teams, playing a pivotal role in shaping the program’s high-performance structure.
  • During his time with the national team program, his teams captured gold medals in 15 international competitions, including four World Championships and two Pan American Championships.
  • Compiled an overall record of 1,450-481-2 during his 35-year career in collegiate coaching, including 20 years at the helm of the University of Tennessee.
  • Ended his career ranked fourth in the NCAA in all-time wins at the time of his retirement in 2021.
  • Led the Vols to the NCAA Tournament every year beginning in 2004, also hosting 16 consecutive NCAA Regionals.
  • Saw the Vols advance to 11 Super Regionals, finishing in the top-three nationally five times, including two national runner-up finishes.
  • Coached the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga to several Southern Conference regular-season titles along with tournament championships.
  • Also led Pacific Lutheran to NAIA National Championships in 1988 and 1992, earning National Coach of the Year honors.
  • Had a 26-year career in the United States Air Force, earning the Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for his service during the Vietnam War.
