Mexico struck early in the bottom of the first, using a double and a single to take a 1-0 lead. Diaz and the U.S. defense kept Mexico off the board over the next four innings, but Mexico added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth following a U.S. fielding miscue and a pair of wild pitches to extend the lead to 4-0. Team USA was unable to respond in the top of the seventh, falling 4-0 in the opener.

Team USA secures 3-2 comeback victory over Guatemala

The U.S. Men’s National Team (MNT) clinched its first win of the 2026 Men’s Pan American Championship with a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Guatemala, plating all three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Following three quiet innings, Guatemala struck first in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead. Trailing by two entering the seventh, the U.S. bats came alive after Tyler Johnson sparked the offense with a double off the fence to bring home the first run. Tyler Damon followed with a fielder’s choice that allowed Alex Gonzalez to race home and even the score, 2-2. Tom Czech then delivered the go-ahead single to put Team USA in front, 3-2. Diaz and the U.S. defense held strong in the bottom half of the inning, sealing the comeback victory.
