Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (December 9, 2024) – In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, USA Softball of the Carolinas took swift action to provide vital aid to communities hit hardest by the storm. Commissioner Tim Doby, Junior Olympic Commissioner Mike Van Horn, and Western North Carolina Director Curtis Cole spearheaded a coordinated effort to gather and deliver essential supplies to those in need.
As soon as the hurricane passed, USA Softball of the Carolinas mobilized its network of players, coaches, families, and fans to collect donations during various softball events. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community—the organization successfully made three major deliveries of supplies: one to Morganton, N.C., and two to Black Mountain, N.C.—one of the areas most severely impacted by the storm. Additionally, the organization has announced plans to make two more trips to deliver even more supplies in the coming weeks.
“Our softball community came together quickly to help those affected by the storm,” said Tim Doby, Commissioner of USA Softball of the Carolinas. “The outpouring of support we received was overwhelming, and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed.”
Beyond delivering supplies, Mike Van Horn and Curtis Cole remained in the affected areas to offer hands-on assistance. They worked alongside local teams and volunteers to support ongoing recovery efforts, showcasing the values of teamwork and community that define USA Softball.
“The softball community isn’t just about the game,” said Mike Van Horn, Junior Olympic Commissioner. “We’re here to support each other, especially in challenging times like these.”
USA Softball of the Carolinas is proud to have made a meaningful impact on those affected by Hurricane Helene. The organization remains dedicated to serving its communities in times of need and demonstrating the power of unity through softball. With more trips planned – they look forward to continuing their efforts to bring relief and hope to those still recovering from the storm’s devastation.
