OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball, a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization announced today that Rebecca Pexton (Douglas, WY) has been appointed as Commissioner for USA Softball of Wyoming following the retirement of longtime Commissioner Ron Merritt.
“I would like to thank USA Softball for the opportunity to serve as Commissioner for USA Softball of Wyoming,” said Pexton. “Softball has been a part of my life since I began playing at age nine in northern Minnesota. I started coaching at age 15, and after moving to Wyoming during a college break, softball was there waiting for me to play as an adult. I met my future husband while coaching a rival women’s team and then I continued on to coach our daughter in travel ball as she got older. I took a short break to watch our kids compete in their own sports, but the game then called me back to coaching and also into umpiring. I was given the unique opportunity to understand the game from the administrative perspective as well through a variety of roles that I’ve enjoyed over the years. It’s safe to say that softball has decided it is to be ingrained in my life.”
Serving as the Junior Olympic (JO) Commissioner for USA Softball of Wyoming since 2016, Pexton begins the Commissioner role with a plethora of knowledge in the administrative side of the sport, also working as a Tournament Director, Regional JO and USA Rep throughout her tenure. This behind-the-scenes work is paired with her on-field experience where she started as a player and transitioned into a coaching role in the Girls’ Fast Pitch division. Rounding out her resume, Pexton then spent time suited up as a USA Softball umpire – gaining experience at the highest levels of grassroots play while working two National Championships along with two All-American Tournaments.
Outside of the organization, Pexton owns a boutique Real Estate Firm and, although retired from the ranching lifestyle, still enjoys helping the neighbors and talking to the cows.
