OKLAHOMA CITY — USA Softball has announced the rosters that will represent the U.S. at the 2025 edition of Border Battle and Slow Pitch Showdown this summer. Slated to take place July 23-26 in the Softball Capital of the World®, the Men’s and Women’s Slow Pitch National Teams, along with the Men’s Futures and Women’s Futures, will each carry a 14-player roster with a total of 20 athletes putting on the Red, White and Blue for the first time in their careers.

Created in 2009, the annual Border Battle enters its 15th season of international matchups between USA Softball and Canada Slow Pitch National Teams with this year’s event returning to Devon Park in Oklahoma City. The action will kick off with exhibition contests ahead of the annual Slow Pitch Showdown where the Men’s Slow Pitch National Team (MSPNT) and Women’s Slow Pitch National Team (WSPNT) will face off against their respective U.S. Futures teams. Capping the weekend, Team USA will matchup against Team Canada for the Men’s and Women’s Border Battle XV competition scheduled for Saturday, July 26.

The 2025 WSPNT is made up of 14 athletes from 11 different states, showcasing a wealth of elite experience as 10 veteran athletes are returning to the Border Battle competition, along with two newcomers: Sarah Davis (Texas) and Carlie Hart (Minn.) – who join the squad for the first time in their careers. Additionally, Chelsea Showers (Ga.) and Randi Pauly (Ill.) will be making their debuts with the WSPNT after spending the 2024 season with the Women’s Futures. “No matter how many times you get to put on the USA uniform, it’s just amazing! There is no bigger honor in our game,” said head coach Don Cooper (Wash.), who will lead the WSPNT for the eighth-straight year alongside returning assistant coaches Shannon Cooper (Wash.) and Tammy Higginbotham (Wash.).

Hailing from seven different states, the Women’s Futures introduces nine new athletes to the squad, while five veterans return to the field. Among the returning players, three come back from the 2024 season: Celine Kealiinohomoku (Ca.), Nicole Matson (Ca.) and Pam Usry (Miss.) — while Kristina Sheriff (Wash.) and Angelia Jones (Miss.) return after participating in prior seasons. At the helm of the Women’s Futures team for the third-consecutive year is head coach Ted Carter (Ky.), alongside returning assistant coach Shannon Ellingsworth (Ky.). “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to coach the Women’s Futures again and be a part of the Border Battle. I want to thank USA Softball for continuing to host this great event and showcase the talented women athletes that play softball,” said Carter.

The 2025 MSPNT roster welcomes back 10 veterans from the 2024 season, while Jeremy Fry (Ind.) and Brandon Yoder (Ohio) add to the talent after competing on the Men’s Futures team last year. The 14-player roster includes athletes from eight different states, featuring two rookies — Kyle Center (Va.) and David Johnson (Ohio) — who will both put on the Red, White and Blue for the first time in their careers. The MSPNT will be led by National Softball Hall of Famer Brett Helmer (N.Y.), who returns for his seventh-consecutive year as head coach, while Tim Barnes (Minn.) is also returns as an assistant coach for the eighth time in his career. “The voting committee did a fantastic job putting this team together! I can’t wait to get them on the field and get to work,” noted Helmer. “We have it all! Power, line-to-line base hitting, pitching, defense, speed. A nice mix of veteran leadership and new blood.”

The Men’s Futures team features a blend of fresh talent and experience from 13 different states, with seven veterans returning to the roster and seven rookies preparing for their debut in the Red, White, and Blue. Returning participants include four-time competitors Austin Andrews (Iowa) and Conner Murray (Kan.), as well as two-time participants Bryan Dezern (Calif.) and Tyler Storey (Ga.). “I am deeply honored to have been entrusted with the role of Head Coach for the U.S. Men’s Futures. Over the years, I’ve been privileged to witness the dedication and passion that defines this program, and I am excited to contribute to its continued success,” said 2025 Men’s Futures head coach, Rob Humphrey (Iowa), who returns to the U.S. coaching staff for the 10th-straight year. “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all who have supported me on this journey. As we move forward, I assure you that both I and the athletes will uphold the values of dignity, respect, and excellence that this program represents. Together, we will strive to honor our country and the sport we love.” he added. Alongside Humphrey at Devon Park will be returning assistant coach Nick Shaw who joined the coaching staff last year.
