SANTIAGO, Chile – The U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) has arrived in Santiago, Chile with sights set on closing out the 2023 season atop the podium at the highly anticipated Pan American Games. The U.S. will compete alongside top opponents in the Americas while looking to claim its 10th Pan American Games gold medal following the squad’s most recent gold medal finish at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.

The eight participating countries have been drawn into two groups with world-ranked No. 1 Team USA competing in Group A alongside No. 55 Chile, No. 6 Mexico and No. 15 Venezuela while No. 4 Canada, No. 14 Cuba, No. 18 Peru and No. 3 Puerto Rico will battle it out in Group B.

Kicking off the action on Sunday, October 29, Team USA will face Chile at 4 p.m. CLST (2 p.m. CT) followed by matchups against Venezuela (Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. CLST/11 a.m. CT) and Mexico (Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. CLST/11 a.m. CT) to close out opening round, with the super and medal rounds to follow Nov. 2-4.

Fans can keep up with the excitement via live stats available on USASoftball.com in addition to streaming opportunities available on the Pan Am Sports Channel, which will showcase live streams of various sports throughout the multi-sport event. The U.S. WNT looks to round out the 2023 season following a punched ticket to the 2024 WBSC World Cup and a hard-fought three-game competition against Japan. The 16-player roster representing the U.S. is stacked with veteran talent, with each athlete having worn the Red, White and Blue for Team USA on previous rosters – including 10 athletes from the 2023 World Cup Group A event, one from the 2023 Japan All-Star Series roster, six from the 2022 World Games and five from the 2020 U.S. Olympic Softball Team. Returning to the Pan American Games stage for the third time in her career is Haylie McCleney, alongside five additional Team USA veterans who will be returning for their second stint.

Containing one current and 15 former NCAA Division I student-athletes, the Pan American Games roster includes talent from across the country with 11 universities and four athletic conferences represented – including the SEC (eight athletes), Pac-12 (six athletes), ACC (one athlete) and Big 12 (one athlete) while Washington leads the pack with three athletes followed by two athletes apiece from Alabama, LSU and UCLA. Also represented with one athlete on the roster is Arizona, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas.

Leading the U.S. WNT is head coach Heather Tarr who looks to guide the Eagles to gold at the 2023 Pan American Games. Tim Walton and Tony Baldwin will once again coach alongside Tarr after the trio previously led Team USA to a victorious finish at the WBSC World Cup Group A event, where newly added assistant coach Cody Thomson also served as a BP pitcher.

Since its inception in 1979, Team USA has proved dominant at the Pan American Games with nine gold medals in tow – most recently being in 2019 – and two silver medals, compiling a 100-5 overall record in its 11 appearances.
