CHENGDU, China — Following a hard-fought 10-inning, 7-6 playoff win over Japan, the U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) defeated Chinese Taipei 5-0 to secure the top spot on the podium at The World Games 2025 (TWG). The Red, White and Blue closed the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring opponents 32-6 en route to the gold medal. Today’s victory marks Team USA’s fourth consecutive World Games title, adding to previous golds in Santa Barbara (1981), London (1985), and Birmingham (2022).

USA 7, Japan 6 — Playoff Round
Team USA continued its dominance at the plate, racking up 14 hits in the win as eight different batters recorded at least one — highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance from Janae Jefferson, along with two hits apiece from Maya Brady, Jayda Coleman, and Tiare Jennings. In the circle, Rachel Garcia went the distance, tossing 7.1 innings with 11 strikeouts before handing things over to Kelly Maxwell in the eighth.
In true USA–Japan fashion, the matchup turned into a back-and-forth battle featuring tight defense and timely hitting that stretched to 10 innings. Team USA struck first with a two-run blast from Jennings in the opening frame for a 2-0 lead. Japan responded in the fourth with a bases-loaded double to plate three, then added another run in the fifth on a pair of base hits to pull ahead, 4-2. Skylar Wallace answered in the bottom of the fifth, crushing a two-run shot over the right-field fence to even the score at 4-4. Still tied heading into extras, Japan pushed across a run in the eighth, only for Jefferson to deliver an RBI single to even it again at 5-5. Japan regained the lead in the 10th with a fielder’s choice, before a single from Hannah Flippen set the stage for Jennings to come through with a bases-loaded walk-off single to secure the 7-6 victory.

USA 5, Chinese Taipei 0
Capping a dominant week in Chengdu, China, the Eagles stayed hot at the plate with 11 hits in the win, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Tiare Jennings (2-for-4) and Amanda Lorenz (2-for-2). In the circle, Megan Faraimo took care of business, holding Chinese Taipei to three hits with no runs allowed while striking out 10 batters over seven innings.
Despite a quiet first inning, the Eagles were quick to the board in the top of the second as Sahvanna Jaquish launched a three-run blast to put the U.S. on top, 3-0. Skylar Wallace added some extra insurance in the top of the seventh with her second homer of the day to extend the lead to 5-0. Megan Faraimo and the U.S. defense then closed it out with two strikeouts and a routine pop-up to seal the shutout victory and secure the gold medal.

With a perfect 5-0 record, the Eagles dominated at TWG 2025, outscoring opponents 32-6 while posting a .344 team batting average. The Red, White and Blue posted wins over Chinese Taipei (twice), the Netherlands, China, and Japan on their way to the top of the podium, tallying 52 hits and 32 RBIs along the way. Two of those victories came via the run-rule. Jefferson led the offense with a .615 batting average, followed by Dejah Mulipola (.417), Coleman (.412), and Jennings (.400). The Eagles also blasted nine home runs, highlighted by three from Wallace and two from Jennings, with Maya Brady, Hannah Flippen, Jaquish, and Lorenz each adding one. In the circle, the U.S. pitching staff of Ally Carda, Faraimo, Garcia, and Maxwell combined for 41 strikeouts while allowing just six earned runs across 35 innings pitched. Faraimo led the Eagles with 17 strikeouts, followed by Garcia (15), Maxwell (7), and Carda (2).
Four Eagles earned All-World Team honors: Coleman, Faraimo, Jefferson, and Jennings, with Jennings also claiming Tournament MVP. Jefferson led the tournament in batting average (.615) and hits (8) while ranking second in on-base percentage (.615). Jennings topped the leaderboard in hits (8), runs scored (7), and at-bats (20), while Wallace led in home runs (3) and RBIs (8). In the circle, Faraimo stood out with a perfect 0.00 ERA, two wins, and 17 strikeouts – third-most of the tournament.
With today’s victory, head coach Patty Gasso secures her first gold medal on the international stage after being named head coach in February 2025.
