OKLAHOMA CITY – For the 10th time in program history, the Bear Creek Gremlins have come away victorious at the USA Softball Men’s Major National Championship, defending their title this past weekend at Devon Park.
It all came down to the final game of the day on Sunday, July 20, after the Hill United Chiefs beat the Gremlins in game one (7-1) of the championship series, forcing a second game to determine who the national champions would be.
The Gremlins beat the Chiefs, 6-4, in the final game of the day to earn the crown for the 10th time overall. Three Gremlins earned All-America honors from USA Softball with Jack Besgrove (P), Ben Enoka (OF) and Cole Evans (IF) all earning the recognition with Evans also being named Tournament MVP.
Through six games in OKC, the Gremlins went 5-1 overall, only allowing one run prior to the championship series. They outscored their opponents 41-12 throughout the tournament.
The Gremlins also had three athletes and a coach competing who represented the U.S. Men’s National Team at the WBSC Men’s World Cup Finals. Cody Gibbons (P), Erick Ochoa (IF), Nick Mullins (C) and Greg Hicks (assistant coach) went from winning bronze for the U.S. at the World Games to claiming a national championship with the Gremlins in a matter of weeks.
