OKLAHOMA CITY – The 8TH annual Langston Hosea Bell Red Dirt Softball Classic concluded this past Saturday bringing opening weekend at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex to a close. The tournament, which featured 11 teams, including 3 HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) teams, showcased exceptional talent and honored the legacy of the late Coach Hosea Bell in a memorable and heartfelt manner.
The standout team of the weekend was Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), which dominated the competition with an impressive 5-0 record. Not far behind were Bethel College, Texas Wesleyan University, and Oklahoma City University, each finishing with a commendable 3-1 record.
The highlight of the event came during a touching speech by the daughter of the late Hosea Bell, who shared memories of her father and his profound impact on the community. She emphasized how Coach Bell’s legacy continues to resonate through events like the Red Dirt Softball Classic, underscoring the enduring spirit of unity and sportsmanship he embodied.
Following the moving tribute, all teams joined together on the OG&E field for a moment of celebration, dancing to Coach Bell’s favorite song, the Cupid Shuffle. This joyful display of camaraderie and spirit encapsulated the essence of the tournament and its mission to honor Coach Bell’s legacy.
