OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball, a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization announced today that Kim Swafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) has been appointed as Commissioner for USA Softball of Arizona.
“I am honored to accept the position of Commissioner and am grateful to USA Softball for this opportunity,” said Swafford. “Softball has been a big part of my life since I was a child watching my father play church league slow pitch. After moving on to play travel softball myself, coaching my own daughter in travel ball, then becoming a JO Commissioner and Tournament Director, I had the opportunity to see the game from all perspectives. There is a rich tradition of all types of softball here in Arizona and I hope to promote and revitalize USA Softball’s programs throughout the state in addition to setting up a strong umpire program.”
A former Junior Olympic (JO) Commissioner for USA Softball of Tennessee (2007-2018), Swafford enters the USA Softball of Arizona Commissioner role with an abundance of experience both on and off the field. She brings a perspective from the root of the grassroots program with a 10-year career as a Girls’ Fast Pitch coach while also garnering knowledge on the administrative side of the game. Swafford has served as Tournament Director at six USA Softball National Championships ranging from 2009-2020 in addition to being the Tournament Rep at two National Championships in Alabama and Washington.
Outside of USA Softball, Swafford recently retired from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) after 31 years of service and now works part-time as a Special Assistant United States Trustee for the DOJ while also teaching classes as an Adjunct Instructor for Rio Salado College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and earned a Juris Doctor from University of Tennessee College of Law.
