OKLAHOMA CITY – Three current members of the U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) took part in Day 2 action at the 2023 NCAA Softball Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City. Washington – Baylee Klingler
Originally scheduled for Thursday, June 2 but postponed due to weather, No. 7Washington opened its WCWS campaign to kick off Day 2 against No. 15 Utah. A steady effort at the plate saw the Huskies post four runs while allowing just three hits in a 4-1 victory. Baylee Klinger brought effort on both sides of the ball with a single down the right field lineand a solid defensive showing, leading the Dawgs to victory and pitting Washington against the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles on Saturday, June 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
Alabama – Montana Fouts
A quiet offensive game sent No. 5 Alabama home in a 2-0 loss to No. 7 Stanford on Friday evening. Montana Fouts threw a complete game in her final outing with the Crimson Tide, striking out four batters while keeping the Cardinal to five hits through seven innings. Fouts leaves the collegiate circle ranked second in program history in strikeouts (1,181), third in shutouts (35) and fourth in wins (100) and complete games (89).
Oklahoma State – Kelly Maxwell
No. 6 Oklahoma State kept their WCWS hopes alive in the loser’s bracket on Friday night as the Cowgirls took down the No. 15 Utah Utes in an 8-0 (five innings) run-rule victory. Kelly Maxwell did not appear in Friday’s action as the Cowgirls pushed out eight hits with a six-run second inning. Oklahoma State continues its run in the loser’s bracket on Sunday, June 4 at 6 p.m. CT as they face the loser of Saturday’s meeting between the Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Lady Volunteers.
Following the conclusion of the WCWS, these athletes will represent the Red, White and Blue at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Group A event in Fingal-Dublin, Ireland held July 11-15. For more information on the 2023 WNT and its upcoming events, visit USASoftball.com.
