GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – The USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) has arrived in Guatemala City, Guatemala as the 16-player roster looks to bring home the gold in the 2022 Pan American Championship. With games taking place Nov. 12-19, the U.S. will compete alongside top opponents in the Americas with the hopes of claiming a spot in the Stage 1 qualifying event for the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup – the first WBSC event to be played under the two-stage format. Additional information for this event will be announced at a later date.

The 14 participating countries have been drawn into two groups with Team USA competing in Group A

alongside Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Puerto Rico and Venezuela while Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and the WBSC will battle it out in Group B.

Kicking off the action on Saturday, Nov. 12, Team USA will face Argentina at 12:45 p.m. CT followed by matchups against Venezuela (Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. CT), Puerto Rico (Nov. 14 at 8:30 p.m. CT) and Costa Rica (Nov. 15 at 12:45 p.m. CT). The Eagles will round out pool play with a double header on Wednesday, Nov. 16 against El Salvador (12:45 p.m. CT) and Brazil (3:30 p.m. CT) while the Playoff and Medal Rounds will follow Nov. 17-19.

Fans can keep up with the excitement all week long with free live streaming and stats available on USASoftball.com.

The U.S. WNT looks to round out the 2022 season following a pair of gold medal finishes at the Canada Cup in Surrey, B.C. and the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, where Team USA pulled out a thrilling 3-2 win over Japan to claim redemption from the Tokyo Olympic gold medal game. Most recently taking the stage at the Japan All-Star Series in a three-game competition against world-ranked No. 2 Japan, the Pan Am Championship roster sets its sights on continuing the trajectory of success with a mix of veteran talent and fresh faces. Six members of the 2022 World Games gold medal team return to the squad – two of which helped lead the U.S. to a silver medal finish at the Tokyo Olympic Games – along with five additional athletes with experience on a previous U.S. WNT or Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT) roster. Looking to make their Team USA debut, five rookies will round out the 2022 Pan Am Championship roster as they rep the Red, White and Blue for the first time in their career.

Containing two current and 14 former NCAA Division I student-athletes, the Pan Am Championship roster includes talent from across the country with 12 universities and six athletic conferences represented – including the Pac-12 (six athletes), SEC (five athletes), Big 12 (two athletes), AAC (one athlete), CAA (one athlete) and C-USA (one athlete) while Arizona, Florida, Texas and UCLA lead the pack with two athletes apiece. Also represented with one athlete on the roster is James Madison, LSU, Marshall, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Tennessee, UCF and Washington.

Once again leading the U.S. on the international stage, Head Coach Heather Tarr (Redmond, Washington/University of Washington Softball Head Coach) looks to guide the Eagles to gold at the 2022 Pan American Championship. Brian Kolze (Head Coach at Pacific) will coach alongside Tarr after assisting at the Canada Cup earlier this year while Mike Steuerwald (Head Coach at Gaston College) also returns to the staff after serving as assistant coach at the Japan All-Star Series in August.
