U.S. Women’s National Team opens USA Down Under Series with 9-0 run-rule
The world-ranked No. 2 U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) kicked off the USA Down Under Series in dominant fashion with a 9–0 run-rule shutout (five innings) over the No. 10 Aussie Spirit. Montana Fouts got the start in the circle, tossing nine K’s through 3.1 innings before Kelly Maxwell entered to record the final five outs — all via strikeout — with the duo combining for a no-hitter. Aubrey Leach led the U.S. offense with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate, tabbing the only multi-hit performance for Team USA, while seven additional batters also recorded hits in the win.
Despite a quiet first inning, the Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second following back-to-back base hits from Leach and Maya Brady, which set the stage for Erin Coffel to send a line-drive double to left field, putting the U.S. on top, 4-0, in the bottom of the second. A wild pitch and defensive miscue from Australia allowed two more runs to cross, extending the U.S. lead, 6-0, in the same frame. Leach added another run in the third with an RBI-single, while Hannah Flippen capped the scoring in the fourth with a double to the fence to plate the final two runs. Maxwell shut the door in the fifth to secure the 9–0 run-rule victory in five innings.

Behind a 10-run sixth inning, Team USA continued its dominance at the 2025 USA Down Under Series with a 14–0 run-rule victory over Australia. Morgan Zerkle led the offense with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate, while Erin Coffel, Hannah Flippen and Tiare Jennings each added two hits apiece. In her debut in the circle for the Red, White and Blue, Karlyn Pickens struck out five through four innings of work before Megan Faraimo closed out the final two frames. The duo combined for eight strikeouts while allowing just one hit.
Quiet through the first four innings, the U.S. offense broke through in the top of the fifth following a lead-off walk to Brito and a defensive miscue that set up a fielder’s choice from Maya Brady to plate the game’s first run. A pair of base hits from Flippen and Jennings, along with an RBI-ground out from Aubrey Leach extended the U.S. lead to 4-0. The bats stayed hot in the top of the sixth as Team USA posted 10 runs — highlighted by a bases-loaded double from Coffel and a bases-loaded triple from Brady. Brito, Jennings, Leach and Zerkle (2) each delivered at least one hit during the rally, pushing the lead to 14-0. Faraimo held strong in the bottom of the sixth to secure the six-inning run-rule victory.
