After four years of playing baseball for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Braves, Miller’s entrance into the fastpitch world is an interesting one and credited to a ‘crazy trophy guy.’ During college, Miller traveled home to Salt Lake City, UT and decided to play in a C level fast pitch tournament with some hometown friends. As the final inning of his last game came to a close, he noticed the ‘trophy guy’ scouting out his team while delivering the tournament hardware. “After the game I was leaving the park and I glanced over at another game and suddenly some guy jumped in front of my car. I slammed on the brakes and this stranger walked up to my car and commented he was putting together a new team for next year, and wanted to know if I was interested.” A shocked Miller drove away not thinking much of the situation until next year when the same ‘crazy trophy guy’ tracked him down in North Carolina and told him that he was going to coach the Larry H. Miller Chevy farm team and wanted him on the team.
